Dr. Elizabeth Cho-Fertikh

Dr. Elizabeth Cho-Fertikh, PhD is a Partner with the Baltimore-based 1812 Ventures which focuses on healthcare investments and has been an angel investor with the Keiretsu Forum, MidAtlantic Chapter. Her 25+ year career in life sciences has spanned across academia, industry, start-ups and now investment fields. She is a trained cancer biologist and obtained her education from Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Thomas Jefferson universities & Harvard Medical, with dozens of research manuscripts published in the highest impact journals, including Nature, Nature Cell Biology & PNAS. She subsequently served as a Scientific Review Officer administering multi-million dollar oncology and neurotrauma grant portfolios for the Dept of Defense and the Cancer Prevention Institute of TX. As Founder of ECF Biosolutions, a life science advisory practice that supports early stage ventures thru pharmaceutical companies and investors, she garnered multi-million dollars in both non-dilutive & dilutive funding; developed & executed FDA IND enabling studies, recruited Board and Advisory Board KOLs, filed numerous nonclinical & clinical regulatory submissions, and provided scientific & financial due diligence support for investors. Clients have included Amgen, Boehringer Ingelheim, Gore Medical, Becton Dickinson, Macrogenics, dozens of start-ups and angel investors. Her own investment portfolio includes both life science and non-life science deals, as she is open to any promising venture. Dr. Cho-Fertikh enjoys mentoring start-up entrepreneurs and has served in this capacity at Halcyon House, Johns Hopkins FastForward, ConnectPreneur and now, George Washington’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Soo Kyung Koo

Soo Kyung Koo served as the Executive Director of International Leadership Foundation (ILF), a national non-profit headquartered in D.C. with the mission of cultivating the pipeline of next generations of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) leaders. Soo manages strategic development, fundraising, and external affairs at ILF, coordinating with federal, congressional, corporate, and non-profit partners and ILF Advisory Boards across the U.S. She also executes policy and leadership training for ILF’s students and stakeholders. She has been appointed by County Executive Isiah Leggett to serve on the Montgomery County Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) in the position of Public Representative. She has been serving on other community- and business-oriented organizations and speaking to policymakers to promote civic engagement by minority groups and leadership diversity in the national decision-making process.

Nina Wang

Ms. Nina Wang joined Greencourt Capital as Vice President and General Counsel. Ms. Wang has approximately 20 years’ tax experiences. She worked in finance and tax planning area for Deloitte & Touche, Thelen Reid & Priest LLP, IBM, Lockheed Martin Corporation and Computer Sciences Corporation. Ms. Wang structured and participated in various reorganizations to streamline company’s Asia structure, |studied entities’ tax attributes and effectively moved approximately $600M of E&P from lower tier entities to a higher tier entity, |led a project to effectively transfer $100M from a foreign subsidiary to US parent by utilizing existing corporate structure and inter-company loans, etc. Ms. Wang is a tax attorney and CPA.

Ying Lin

Ying Lin is currently the Trade Compliance Counsel for Fortune 500 company. She has over a decade of experience advising U.S. and international companies across the spectrum of international trade issues, including AD/CVD enforcement, customs issues, and economic sanctions and export controls. She has helped companies navigate the complex regulatory regime. Her current focus is on building the global trade compliance program for a multinational company located in over thirty countries. She will cover: 

 

  • Supply chain management and e-commerce

  • Supply chain compliance risks

  • Ethical supply chain

  • Best practice for managing growing legal obligations

John Lim

John Lim is an entrepreneur with extensive experience in both the product and service space. He is a graduate of The University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown Law and The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. After practicing business law in DC, John worked for over 10 years with a Fortune 500 company as a consultant, lecturer and account manager. Today, John executive produces and hosts the Moving Forward podcast where he speaks with today's top business leaders and entrepreneurs. John is also a former TV and film actor and 2018 TEDx speaker.

GUEST SPEAKER

Charles Li 

Charles Li is an expert in biotech and business development. Charles has fifteen years of experience in pharmaceutical research and development, including medicinal chemistry in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, imaging probe development for biomedical research, and clinical diagnosis. His recent focus is on hiPSC products for CNS drug discovery and cell therapy. Charles has founded and helped grown several very early stage organizations and biotech companies in the US. Charles also has extensive experience pitching to incubators and investors. In addition, Charles assumes several leadership roles in international professional associations, committed to mutually sustainable prosperity between the US and China.
